The next 15 minutes could make you smarter!

So I was about to throw away my April 2011 Glamour magazine. Well I don’t know about throwing it away, I kind of like going back to them for some old tips… like this one. The next 15 minutes could make you smarter. We all want to be smarter… right? These super fast tricks will help you get your game on, experts say.

Got one minute?

Test Your Memory

Look at whatever’s directly in from of you for 30 seconds. Now close your eyes and visualize what you saw. Without looking up, write down 10 items you just spied. This forces your brain to use both its language and visual areas, says Shelley Carson, Ph.D., author of your creative Brain. It’s a perfect tune-up before an important presentation.

Got two minutes?

Crank Up Some Music

Upbeat songs increase levels of the feel-good brain chemical dopamine. And “being in a good mood inhibits parts of the brain that are critical,” explains Carson, “so you’re better able to come up with creative solutions.”

Got Seven Minutes?

See Green

Can’t leave your cube?

YouTube “nature montage,” then takes seven minutes to look at images of land, sea and sky. Nature’s restful effect can enhance memory and attention almost 20 percent, a small University of Michigan study found.

Got 10 minutes?

Play More

Ten minutes of non-violent video games like Tetris quickness you’re through processes, letting you make decisions and see connections faster. Bonus: Video games distract you from anxieties, which can hamper quick thinking.

Got 15 minutes?

Have Some Coffee!

Or tea, for that matter: Caffeine revs up the central nervous system and boosts the hormone nor epinephrine, which acts like “brain adrenaline,” says Carson. You’ll see an improvement in attention and problem solving. Just don’t have more than two cups: Jitters ruin everything!

Try it… Hope it works for ya.

Inspirational tips...

So, the other day I was stuck on a homework assigment. So, I stopped doing it. Why? Because I felt the need to blog. Blogging inspires me to write. Blogging helps me to influence my writing. It helps by clearing my head. When Blogging, I write what I want to write. So, I usually write what’s on my mind. Once I put it on paper it helps me clear my head. Once my head is clear I concentrate on what I need to write like school papers. Doing it, it feels like I’m cleansing my mind a bit by putting all my thoughts on paper or on the computer. Once I'm done blogging I’m in the zone. You know the zone? Well the zone meaning like in the stage or phase of wanting to write. That stage makes me enjoy writing, and my thoughts are even more developed.
Another thing that helps me while I’m doing homework or writing is… music. Music? Yes, music. Music relaxes me. Well it all depends on what kind of music too. When I’m sleepy I tend to listen to something that going to keep me awake. I’ll listen to some songs that have a beat to it…like hip hop. If I’m too wired up and need to chill out and write I’ll listen to some R&B.
Even though these things help me out it might not help those that don’t know how to multi-task. My co-worker… (no names) cannot multi-task, so this will defiantly not be for him. He would start writing and listen to a song and forget what he needed to write. So again… if you can’t multi-task maybe you should not try it on a day that an important paper is due.

Multitasking: A polite way of telling someone you haven’t heard a word they said.

HOME WALK- DONATE

HomeWalk 08

What is HomeWalk?

HomeWalk our 5K walk, is part of United Way of Greater Los Angeles’ year-round campaign to end homelessness. In 2008, over 4,000 people and 250 volunteers walked together to raise approximately $500,000. Participants in HomeWalk are also led on an educational journey, inspiring walkers to learn more about the crisis of homelessness and what they can do to solve it.

How will the funds be used?

All money raised from HomeWalk is distributed back into the community to help quickly rehouse homeless families and provide permanent housing with supportive services to the chronically homeless. Our rapid rehousing partners quickly move homeless families into permanent housing and provide short-term income support and additional support services (food vouchers, access to medical care and day care) to help ensure a successful transition. Our permanent supportive housing partners provide subsidized apartments with on-site services available, such as health care, mental health and substance abuse treatment programs.

Now more than ever we need to work together to fight poverty.

So we can end homelessness for good.
